House of Representatives Standing Committee on Employment and Workplace Relations Inquiry 2008
We currently employ a bigger proportion of the working-age population (70%) than ever before. Nevertheless, to increase participation in paid employment even further, we would need both to increase the supply of jobs and to improve the incentives for people to take them. The supply of jobs can be increased by further labour market reform. The incentive to take paid work can be improved by a combination of tax and welfare reform. This submission addresses each of these objectives in turn.
