Rendering Unto Caesar: New Challenges for Church and State

op-90In considering contemporary trends shaping church-state relations, Samuel Gregg suggests that two paradoxical developments are occurring.  First, we no longer live in a society where religious communities can expect a basic sympathy from almost all political groups of left and right

The second phenomenon is a growing awareness that faith-communities need to reassess their own role in the public square.
